Today with an official presentation and reporting results ended 4-months trial period of the electric Yutong Е12. The bus was provided entirely free of charge to Sofia Public Transportation EAD by the distributor and authorized representative of Zhengzhou Yutong Bus CO., Ltd. for Bulgaria Bulgarian Automotive Industry EAD.

The electric E12 was at the disposal of Sofia Public Transportation from January till May and conducts courses on route 84 – from Vrazhdebna airport to General Gurko Str. on daily babsis, in two working shifts and during the trial period covered almost 22,000 km.

During the presentation at Alexander Nevski Sq. Mr. Slav Monov, Director of Sofia Public Transportation EAD expressed his gratitude to the authorized distributor as well as satisfaction with the results Yutong E12 demonstrated.  He emphasized he is impressed from E12 excellent performance and absolutely flawless behavior both in days with temperatures (-20) degrees and on warmer days with temperatures above 25 degrees, while the temperature in the bus saloon remains constantly 19 degrees all the time which guarantees passengers maximum comfort.

Despite the huge temperature differences and the load, combined consumption of E12 was 99w/h per 100 km or this is cost about 16 BGN per 100 km mileage. For the same mileage a conventional bus consumes fuel with cost about 80 BGN.

Practice shows that under normal weather conditions, the potential of the electric bus is over 300 km with a single charge. The functional time for full charging of batteries form 0 to 100% is 4 hours, which allows flexibility and convenience for the users, as well as efficiency of the bus.

Besides 4 times lower costs per kilometer mileage, the electric bus saves money to taxpayers with 3 times cheaper servicing expenses compared to a conventional bus. Electric buses do not require cooling fluids or replacement of  accumulators, connectors, oil or fuel filters.

Mr. Todor Stoykov, commercial director of Bulgarian Automotive Industry EAD, presented data from the latest research of International Association of Public Transport according to which up to 2020 in strategies of 19 operators in 25 European cities is included electrification of public transport. He said he is very pleased that Sofia is among these cities with eco strategies. According to the research up to 2020 electric buses on European streets will be 2500 units which constitutes 6% of overall public transportation. The tendency is in future even more conventional buses to be replaced by electric buses with batteries because of eco and environmental problems which recently became prior for Europe and Europeans. This is not surprising since harmful CO₂ emissions of an electric bus per 1 km are 0.00 gr against 2.2 kg CO₂ emissions per 1 km mileage of a conventional bus. These statistics are not just numbers but has direct impact on population health, environment and ecological equilibrium.

ZeEUS (Zero Emission Urban Bus System) report from the end of last year claim that while Europe is still leader in research of electric mobility solutions and technologies China is leader in in their production and delivery. With their experience and thankfully to the practice Chinese are able to guarantee top quality which many other manufacturers cannot. At the end of 2015 overall electric buses deliveries are 173 000 units of which 170 000 units are Chinese. This amount represents 98.3% of overall electric buses deliveries. Currently China is leader not only in production but also in usage and implementation of electric buses for public transportation.

`It is sure Europe has a lot to learn from China and what to adopt in our own public transportation strategies` declared Mr. Stoykov at the end of the presentation.

After the welcoming ceremony, representatives, accompanied by Kang, visited Yutong New Energy Bus Production Base. At the entrance of the workshop, an exhibition with both pictures and videos was presented to visitors to show the development history of the bus maker. When told that Yutong now boasts an annual production volume of over 60,000 units, all visitors raised their thumbs and expressed their hope that Yutong could strengthen its marketing efforts in Europe.

At the Final Assembly Workshop No. 3, Kang explained in detail about the manufacturing procedures of Yutong buses. Visitors were all amazed by the state-of-art production facilities and advanced management.

At Yutong Bus Exhibition Area, visitors were immediately attracted by Yutong T7 high-end business bus and two buses which would soon start their journey to Europe. They made inquiries about the technical details of these vehicles. Philip from Czech boarded T7 and was deeply impressed by its interior design and its comfortable seats.
